Marriage story
They had us on a pedestal
We were what they wanted to be
You sold them an ideal
Which you also sold to me
You made me believe you were honest
That you were someone I could trust
But I wasn't enough, temptation called
And you wanted deception, the thrill and lust
Lockdown stopped you in your tracks
Your desire was trapped like a caged bird
But you told me you loved me, adored me, I'm beautiful
And I believed every word
So now, caged bird - the freedom is yours
You ran off so fast only leaving dust
Whilst I tried to understand how it all went wrong
And wondering, in the future, who I can trust
You don't deserve me
I certainly don't deserve you
I deserve better, so I've been told
So what I am going to do?
I've cried, had sleepless nights
But I'm over the worst
You've taught me a valuable lesson
That always, without fail, I must put myself first
