Running on Empty

I have so much love to give, and I give it to everyone in abundance. My boyfriend, friends, family, strangers - whether it's a care package in the post, a cheerful surprise letter or a wide smile at someone passing on the street. It brings me such joy making other people feel happy and loved and I never ever do it to get anything in return, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to feel loved back. The greatest shame about this love story is I'm not sure how much longer it can go on for - there's only so much love I can keep giving without getting it back and right now, I'm running on empty and it's exhausting. So to anyone who's a recipient of someone else's love - be it platonic, romantic, maternal - don't take it for granted. Cherish it, appreciate it and give back to the givers in your life.
