Always grateful

I’ll always be grateful I sat next to you at that dinner. We’d been in the same circles for some time but that night in January felt slightly different- for a start you were wearing that dress. We chatted about all sorts and you even gave me tips on how to navigate Hinge. We started messaging soon after, mainly about “Love is Blind” and slowly started to get to know each other. It’s February, and I was in your city for a work trip, and stopped by your office for a catch up. Later that day, on my way home I bumped into you at the bus stop and I almost asked you out for a drink, but bottled it (which you’ve never let me live down). You tell me you’re coming down to London and we agree to catch up...just as professional acquaintances you thought- but I had other ideas; much to your surprise I ask you whether we should call it a date, and you agree. We have 3 wonderful dates; a jazz club, a Japanese restaurant, people-watching in the park- and then lockdown hits. Soon after, we decide that we’re serious about this and we’re going to make it work. We chat every day, we send love letters, we watch Netflix together; and we open ourselves up to each other, connecting on a deep level. It was a challenging time for us both but we were able to pick each other up along the way. 4 months later, we are finally allowed to see each other again and it’s magical; all the anxieties of whether it will work fade away and we spend weekends lost in each other’s presence. Now you’re back home for the break- thousands of miles across the world with your family. I miss you immensely but so glad you were able to get away to see them after such a long time. We’ve recently started a google doc of all the things that we want to do when you’re back and the world gets back to normal- Paris, theatres, rooftop bars, and a whole long list of people we want to introduce each other to. I’ll always be grateful I sat next to you at that dinner. I’m so wonderfully in love with you and can’t wait to hold you again. x
