Over the car bonnet

I was set up with a guy last year by my best friend’s younger sister. He was lovely and we got along really well but there was something missing for me after a few dates, so I broke it off and he was an incredible gentleman about it all.

Fast forward to coronavirus. I’ve moved since last year to about 10 mins walk around the corner from him, and was living on my own during lockdown. We’ve been in touch as friends sporadically since we dated, but during lockdown I’d see him walking his dog past my house, so we’d have a quick chat out the window. All the coffee shops were closed but the Costa machine at the local petrol station was open so he started bringing me coffee and we’d chat over his car bonnet (2m apart obvs). I was then furloughed during May and he was on standby for work, so we ended up seeing each other most days. We’d sit in the garden socially distanced with his dog and just chat for hours. We had a water fight with the dog and I sprayed him with the hose, and he used that excuse to finally break social distancing to hug me, ‘well if I’m wet you’re going to be wet too’.

We finally kissed after going out for a dog walk at the end of June, and have now been together for 4 months. It’s been so easy and comfortable with him. He knows everything that I struggle with after an abusive relationship 3 years ago, and he’s told me all about his past, so everything has been built on a place of friendship, trust, and communication. I told him I loved him 3 weeks after being ‘official’ - technically we’d been dating for 3-4 months without even knowing 😂💞
