A vow

I've been your partner four years,
and lived with you for two
Finally we're home together
and I am side by side with you.
We used to live like passing ships, diaries chained around our neck
I'd be in at midnight and on your sleeping face I'd peck
A kiss
I'd tuck in tightly, feel your warmth
And then you left before the dawn

And then,
Lockdown.
A foreign, alien sounding phrase
We joked about Black Mirror and dystopian feeling days
But then,
Everything changed

Now
We are together, fingers interlaced so gently as we walk
Every day together, finally we talk
About
The future
Or nothing or silliness and jokes
We've found solace in the new normal the new
Contended us.
Happy, calm, peaceful
Despite worries of work, of family, of life
We are each other's sole priority and
It breaks my heart
That before I couldn't see
That we were passing ships and now
I vow, to you, to never be a ship again

I'll miss you
When the offices call
And the diaries return
I promise to remain
Yours.
Faithfully
Honestly
Peacefully
Happily
