To Rome with love

In Jan 2020 I went to Italy for a weekend to visit my mate who had just moved there. We had an epic weekend planned consisting of partying and eating pasta. On Saturday night we tippsly traipsed to their friend's birthday party, where I was unable to focus on anything but this one hottie. The chemistry between us was ridiculous from the first words we exchanged in rusty Italian and English. We spent the next day together with friends and after two nights of ridiculous sexual tension one thing led to another. I was quite looking forward to finishing off my holiday weekend with a no strings attached one night stand before never seeing him ever again- but NO, something wonderful but strange happened between us.

Anyhow, two weeks later he came to visit me for a long weekend in the UK, then shortly after I went back to Italy. We had such a strong connection that we had decided to give long distance a go (despite being people that had previously been unable to see why anyone would want to do such a thing!) but then along came lockdown numero uno. Like everyone I was worried, for my loved ones in the midst of this surreal pandemic, but also that the connection we had would quickly fizzle away since we could no longer see one another. But this wasn't the case. Every day we spoke for hours on the phone, had virtual drinks and dinners as well as the odd English and Italian lesson! It was crazy how the conversation never dried up between two people who a) didn't have anything interesting to say due to the lockdown lifestyle and b) spoke different languages. I couldn't stop thinking about him during lockdown and was dying to see him in person. I religiously checked airline websites each day to see when and where we could finally see eachother, which seemed like it was never going to happen after having multiple bookings cancelled. Finally in June I found flights from the UK to Rome (with a very long layover in Budapest) which I was expecting would have been cancelled last minute as I made my way to the airport. It only started to sink in that I was actually going to see him again as the connecting flight left Budapest!

We reunited in June in Rome and have spent every day together since. We now live together in the UK where we have spent two lockdowns together, despite this my partner is absolutely loving his new life in the UK and I am loving my life even more with him here.
