The dance

I met him in 2017 and instantly believed in love at first sight. He was kind, confident and the best dancer in the room. For the next three and a half years, we spent every spare moment together. We drank fine wine, analyzed the jazz music we both loved, and traveled to more places than I'll ever be able to count.

The song ended and the dance was done when Covid hit. The things that were foundational to our relationship were stripped away and who we were at our core selves was all that was left.

I vowed to myself as I ended things that I'd look for a life partner next, not just a dance partner.
